Indonesia Starts Used-Cooking-Oil Collection Pilot for Cleaner Fuels
Indonesia’s Pertamina Patra Niaga and the Cooperatives Ministry have started a used cooking oil collection pilot through village and urban cooperatives.
The pilot began at a cooperative in Dawuhan, Banyumas, Central Java, and will run for four months at four locations.
It aims to collect 500,000 litres of used cooking oil from local residents.
The oil can be processed into sustainable aviation fuel and Green Gasoline, turning household waste into fuel ingredients.
Pertamina says the Cilacap refinery is prepared to process the oil, with other refineries also being considered.
Residents may receive economic value for the oil they bring in, while the collection system could help secure supplies for fuel production.
The ministry hopes to expand the cooperative network across Indonesia to support the energy industry and create more local economic opportunities.
