Robyn Williams to leave ABC’s The Science Show after 51 years

Robyn Williams will leave The Science Show in December after presenting the ABC program for 51 years.

The 82-year-old broadcaster has hosted the show since it began in 1975, making it the ABC’s longest-running program with the same host.

The ABC says it wants to refresh its science programming and make way for “the next generation,” but has not given details about a replacement.

Williams has reported on climate change, asbestos and medical malpractice during his time on the program.

He will remain connected to the ABC through science documentaries if he accepts the broadcaster’s offer to make them in 2027.

Williams says he will still be making plans related to Australian science within the ABC after leaving the show.
