Adif president leaves post after deadly Urda train crash

Luis Pedro Marco de la Peña has left as head of Adif, Spain’s rail infrastructure manager.

Reports differ on whether he resigned after meeting transport minister Carlos Cuerpo or was dismissed.

His departure follows the Urda train crash in Toledo on 28 October, which killed 69 people and injured more than 200, according to one report.

Former transport minister Óscar Puente resigned a day earlier, and Cuerpo has temporarily taken over transport responsibilities.

The departures come amid a crisis in rail transport and concerns about public confidence in the system.

Adif now needs a new leader as authorities continue managing the crash’s aftermath and investigating what happened.

The government has approved 30 million euros in aid and measures to improve high-speed rail safety.
