First Lithium gets three-year renewals for Mali exploration licences
Mali renewed First Lithium’s Gouna and Faraba exploration licences for three years from September 4, 2026.
The renewals let the Australian company resume work toward a first formal estimate of its lithium resources in Mali.
Earlier drilling at the Blakala prospect found lithium-bearing rock, but the company has not yet published a formal resource estimate.
The estimate is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026 and will set out the project’s estimated mineralised tonnes, grade and resource classification.
The permits allow exploration, not mining; a separate mining licence is required before operations can begin.
First Lithium must also meet spending, legal compliance and rehabilitation requirements, and says it plans more exploration and is seeking reinstatement to ASX trading.

The renewals allow work to progress towards the company’s maiden JORC lithium resource estimate.
The licences run for three years from September 4, 2026, and require minimum exploration spending and compliance with Mali’s mining laws.
First Lithium expects to complete its maiden resource estimate during Q4 2026.
