GiFi to close 10 stores in France as 32 become Grand Frais outlets

French discount retailer GiFi is closing 10 stores as it faces financial trouble.

The closures affect locations including Thiais, Stains, Besançon, Lyon and Toulouse.

GiFi asked for court-supervised restructuring on 20 October, saying the move was intended to protect the company and keep it operating.

Competition from Action, B&M, Shein and Temu has added pressure on the retailer, which sells low-priced home goods.

Another 32 GiFi stores are due to become Grand Frais outlets, while 14 others will be run under a management arrangement.

A GiFi store in Neuville-en-Ferrain was initially listed for closure but was saved after a lease renegotiation, with its floor space cut in half.

The Grand Frais conversions are expected after renovation work, but the sources give no further details about GiFi’s restructuring process.
