Aydın opens new junction and bridge to ease city traffic

A new junction and bridge in Aydın, Turkey, are ready to open to traffic after construction was completed on November 6.

The project includes a 105-metre covered section at the Dörtyol junction and a 45-metre bridge over the Tabakhane.

The completed route covers 950 metres and was due to be opened to the public at 10 p.m., according to Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu.

The changes are intended to improve traffic flow in the city centre and reduce waiting times by two minutes.

Officials expect vehicle queues to shrink from 510 metres to 101 metres, making journeys quicker and more comfortable.

The project is forecast to save 340 million lira a year in time and fuel costs and cut carbon emissions by 613 tonnes annually.

The sources give no further information about follow-up work.
