Three Swiss soldiers injured in training boat accident on Lake Lucerne
Three Swiss soldiers were injured in a training boat accident on Lake Lucerne near Gersau, in the canton of Schwyz, on Monday evening.
The accident happened at about 7 p.m.
during a military exercise involving a Ribcraft training boat.
The soldiers belonged to Genie Recruit School 73, which trains recruits for the Swiss Army’s engineering troops.
All three were taken to hospital; one was flown there by Rega helicopter, while the other two went by civilian ambulances.
The engineering troops learn to use boats, and can help with tasks such as transport across rivers and lakes or support during floods.
Military justice has opened an investigation, but the cause of the accident is not yet known.
