WhatsApp lets non-users view event invitations and RSVP
WhatsApp is expanding its event-planning tools with a new Events hub in the app’s settings.
The hub will list past and upcoming plans, and let hosts manage events and RSVPs.
Hosts can add a header photo, set reminders and invite people who do not have WhatsApp accounts.
Those guests can view the details and RSVP without signing up, but they will see the address only after they respond.
WhatsApp says a host’s phone number is hidden from guests they do not know, while existing chat and call encryption remains in place.
The update makes it easier to plan with people outside WhatsApp, and will reach users over the following weeks.
WhatsApp is adding event invitations that people without an account can open and RSVP to without downloading the app.
Guests without WhatsApp will see the event address only after they RSVP, and hosts’ phone numbers will not be shown to guests they do not know.
A new Events Home in WhatsApp settings will bring past and upcoming events together and let users manage invitations and RSVPs.
Users can customize invitations, set reminders and allow guests to bring a plus one.
The updates are rolling out and are expected to reach everyone in the coming weeks.
