Three new MRT stations in eastern Singapore to open on Dec 26

Singapore will open three new MRT stations in the east on Dec 26: Bedok South, Xilin and Sungei Bedok.

Bedok South will serve the Thomson-East Coast Line, Xilin the Downtown Line, and Sungei Bedok will connect the two lines.

The extensions are intended to improve connections across eastern Singapore, including access to homes, schools and employment areas.

Some trips could become up to 25 minutes shorter, including travel from Havelock to Changi Business Park.

The new stations will bring more than 240,000 households within a 10-minute walk of a Thomson-East Coast Line station and more than 220,000 within that distance of a Downtown Line station.

A future extension to Changi Terminal 5 is expected to expand the Thomson-East Coast Line’s reach.

In fact, residents in the east may even be able to take the Thomson-East Coast Line continuously into the city centre, up north to Woodlands, and maybe conveniently across the Straits into Malaysia very soon.
