Türkiye awards seven wind projects with 1,500 MW capacity

Türkiye has completed auctions for seven wind power sites with a combined capacity of 1,500 megawatts.

The sites are in Sivas, Balıkesir, Manisa and Kütahya, and 12 companies submitted 29 bids.

The projects are expected to generate 4.6 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity each year, enough to meet the needs of about two million homes.

The government says this could also prevent $852 million in annual natural gas imports.

The auctions produced a total contribution payment of €75.5 million, including VAT, and set a base price of 3.50 euro cents per kilowatt-hour.

Winning companies can sell their electricity on the open market for 72 months after signing contracts, then supply it to the transmission system at that price for 20 years.

The next step is to build the projects, which Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said should be brought into service as soon as possible.
