Shin Emperor retires from racing and will become a breeding stallion

Shin Emperor has retired from racing and had his racehorse registration removed on October 30.

The five-year-old was trained by Yoshito Yahagi and raced in Japan and overseas.

He won three of 17 races, including the 2025 Neom Turf Cup and the 2023 Kyoto Nisai Stakes.

He also finished second in two top-level races, the Hopeful Stakes and the Japan Cup, but did not win a Grade 1 title.

His trainer said it would be difficult to get him fully fit, prompting the decision to end his racing career.

Yahagi said he regretted not being able to race the horse in consistently good condition.

Shin Emperor is expected to become a breeding stallion at Arrow Stud in Hokkaido, and Yahagi said he hopes the horse’s offspring will do well.

In the future, I judged that it would be difficult to get him into full fitness, so he will retire from racing and become a breeding stallion at Arrow Stud.

I could not race him in a condition that was truly satisfactory, which reflects my shortcomings as a trainer, and I feel more regret than anything else.
