Boxtel D66 councillor arrested on suspicion of election fraud

Boxtel councillor Sohib H. was arrested on suspicion of election fraud and several other offences.

The 38-year-old is a member of the D66 party and also works for the Dutch Public Prosecution Service.

Prosecutors say the allegations include official corruption, computer intrusion, document forgery and breach of official secrecy.

A second man, aged 34, was also arrested in the case.

H. was already under criminal investigation for suspected money laundering earlier this year and was suspended from his job at the time.

D66 said it was shocked and said the allegations, if proven, would conflict with the party’s principles.

Prosecutors have not shared further details while the investigation continues.

H. previously won many preference votes in local elections, but it is not known whether that is connected to the election-fraud suspicion.
