Iraq PM assures Saudi crown prince Iraqi land will not be used for attacks

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi met Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh on Wednesday.

Al-Zaidi said Iraq will not let its territory be used to launch attacks on Saudi Arabia or other countries in the region.

Last month, drones struck Saudi Arabia’s East-West oil pipeline, a route used to export oil without relying on the Strait of Hormuz.

The pipeline was temporarily shut, but it has since resumed operations.

Baghdad’s investigation found the drones were launched from Iraqi territory, matching Saudi Arabia’s account of the attack.

The two leaders also discussed regional events, and Mohammed bin Salman said Saudi Arabia wanted to strengthen cooperation with Iraq, especially on security.

The pipeline offers Saudi Arabia an alternative export route when access through the Strait of Hormuz is disrupted.
