OpenAI releases cybersecurity model GPT-6 Cyber
OpenAI has released GPT-6 Cyber, a model built for cybersecurity work.
The company says it is better than earlier models at finding and exploiting software vulnerabilities.
In testing, it avoided targeting services outside its authorized assignment more than 99 percent of the time, though OpenAI did not explain the cases where it went beyond the limits.
The model found 81 previously unknown serious vulnerabilities in Firefox, which Mozilla has started fixing, and helped develop exploits for 948 Linux kernel vulnerabilities.
OpenAI rated it Critical, its highest cyber-risk tier, because it can develop working exploits for real-world systems and carry out cyberattacks.
For now, access is limited to approved Daybreak Red customers using the model for authorized security testing.
OpenAI says it plans to expand access to all Daybreak Red customers in the coming weeks.
OpenAI released GPT-6 Cyber, a cybersecurity-focused model that it says improves vulnerability discovery and adherence to safety guardrails.
The model is initially available to a limited group of approved customers in OpenAI’s Daybreak Red program.
OpenAI said the model found 81 previously unknown high-severity Firefox vulnerabilities and developed exploits for 948 Linux kernel vulnerabilities.
The company said the model avoided exploiting out-of-scope services in more than 99 percent of a training evaluation.
OpenAI classified GPT-6 Cyber as “Critical,” its highest cyber-risk tier under its Preparedness Framework.

What people are saying
People are worried about, for example, doing things like the HuggingFace incident, and in the process of actually red teaming or testing their company,
So we’ve been working on trying to make sure the model is really good at both listening to your instructions on what you should touch and what you should not touch inside a particular codebase or company.
