Unicaja hires Spencer Stuart to find its next chair
Unicaja has hired Spencer Stuart to find its next chair after José Sevilla declined to renew his term.
Sevilla is expected to leave the Spanish bank in spring and will continue in the role until then.
The bank plans to keep an independent chair, rather than appointing one of its current directors or a representative of its main shareholder, Fundación Unicaja.
The search is being led by Unicaja’s appointments committee, chaired by former Santander executive María Luisa Arjonilla.
The new chair is expected to have banking experience and a strong reputation, and to balance the work of chief executive Isidro Rubiales.
Spencer Stuart is still looking for candidates, after which the committee will select a shortlist of three.
Unicaja hopes to complete the process in two or three months, leaving time for European Central Bank approval before April.
