Incheon outlines urban renewal plan as it seeks to host 2028 G20 summit
Incheon is seeking to host the 2028 G20 summit, which is due to take place in South Korea.
Mayor Park Chan-dae presented a plan to reshape the city’s cultural, tourism, housing and transport systems.
The plan links cultural sites and projects into tourism areas, including a proposed video and culture complex and sites in the city’s old downtown.
For housing, the city plans to speed up work in six areas, covering 16,267 homes, and expand supply through redevelopment and a new cooperative apartment model.
Incheon also wants to improve transport links, including by seeking national approval for two proposed GTX rail lines and expanding major roads.
The city says the changes will strengthen its case to host the summit, but no decision on the host city is given.
