Trump approval stays near record low ahead of US midterm elections
A Reuters/Ipsos poll found Trump’s approval at 32%, close to its record low, just before US congressional elections on Tuesday.
Among registered voters, 46% said they would vote for Democrats and 38% for Republicans in the national poll.
The Democrats’ eight-point lead was smaller than their 11-point lead in a poll the previous week.
The poll found that half of independent voters saw their ballot as a vote against Trump, while 13% saw it as a vote for him.
A national preference poll gives a broad picture but cannot show the state-by-state and district-by-district contests that decide control of Congress.
Voters will choose members of Congress on Tuesday, and the poll’s results do not determine which party will control either chamber.
Donald Trump’s approval rating stood at 32 percent in the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll, near a record low, ahead of the November 3 US midterm elections.
In the generic congressional ballot, 46 percent of respondents preferred Democrats and 38 percent preferred Republicans.
The Democratic lead was 8 percentage points, down from 11 points in a poll a week earlier.
