Becky G Discusses ‘Baraja Bendita’ and Sisterhood at Latin Music Week

Becky G spoke about her new album, ‘Baraja Bendita,’ at a music industry event in Miami Beach.

Released in August, it is her fifth studio album and draws on lessons and challenges from her life and career.

The title means “the blessed deck of cards,” reflecting her idea that people cannot choose their circumstances but can choose how to respond.

She said the album embraces her Spanglish voice and crosses genres, choices she says were not always celebrated when she began her career.

Becky G also described the support she has built with other women in Latin music, saying artists were once treated as if there was room for only one woman at a time.

She said women are now building their own space together, a change she sees as important for the industry.

She did not describe a next step for the album or her career at the event.

It’s the fact that I’m a Spanglish speaker. It’s the fact that I’m a genreless artist, and it is a genreless album, and it is a Spanglish album unapologetically.
