Landslide kills cyclist and closes part of Great Allegheny Passage

A landslide killed a woman cycling on the Great Allegheny Passage in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, on Saturday.

The coroner identified her as Gail Luck, but accounts differ on whether she was 78 or 79; both say she was from Wisconsin.

Her husband was injured and is expected to make a full recovery after being taken to hospital by helicopter.

The trail section near Connellsville remains closed because the hillside is still shifting, and Pennsylvania's Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is investigating.

The 150-mile passage links Pittsburgh with Cumberland, Maryland, and draws cyclists, walkers and runners, especially in the busy fall season.

Local outfitters are arranging shuttles around the closure, and trail users are advised to contact them for updates and transport.
