Inquiry names two men as alleged figures in David Rossi's death

David Rossi, a communications executive at Monte dei Paschi di Siena, died after falling from his office window in Siena on March 6, 2013.

A parliamentary inquiry has named Giuseppe Mussari and Gabriele Ceccherelli as alleged figures in the case based on information from consultants and interviews with detainees.

The inquiry says former MPS chair Mussari allegedly ordered an intimidation attempt, while Ceccherelli allegedly organized the operation and selected people for its execution.

The inquiry says the attempt was not initially meant to kill Rossi, but these are investigative claims, not judicially established responsibilities.

Rossi’s death was twice closed as suicide, though later technical reviews and the inquiry have raised questions about that conclusion.

Both men deny any involvement, and the inquiry says neither is under investigation.

The inquiry will send its documents to prosecutors, who will decide what steps to take; Rossi’s family has urged caution and wants the evidence examined.
