Mahesh Bhatt says Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana performance moved him to tears
Mahesh Bhatt says Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana moved him to tears when he watched it with an audience.
Kapoor plays Lord Rama in director Nitesh Tiwari's film, with Yash as Ravana and Sai Pallavi as Sita.
Bhatt said Kapoor showed a side of himself that his earlier films had not called for.
The scene sending Rama into 14 years of exile made Bhatt struggle not to cry.
Bhatt said stories of the Ramayana were part of his childhood, and his first screen version was Homi Wadia's Sampoorna Ramayana.
The film is part of a two-film project that producer Namit Malhotra says has a budget of Rs 4,000 crore.
Its first-day worldwide earnings were reported at Rs 127.5 crore, but it remains unclear whether the film will recover its budget.
