‘You Can See Everything’ Could Set a Documentary Box Office Record

A24’s documentary about Elizabeth Holmes opens in about 800 theaters this weekend.

Directed by Noah Oppenheim and Nathan Fielder, the film follows Holmes, the convicted Silicon Valley fraudster who led biotech company Theranos.

It is projected to earn at least $8 million in its opening weekend, though that would not beat the expected openings of two wider releases.

The current record for a non-music documentary opening since the pandemic is held by “Melania,” which earned $7.1 million in February.

The film’s opening could mark a rare theatrical success for documentaries, which have struggled to draw audiences in recent years.

Its surprise premiere and viral teaser have helped build interest, and some have speculated it could receive a Best Picture Oscar nomination.
