The CW’s Stargirl Brings DC’s Justice Society of America to TV

The CW’s Stargirl centers on the Justice Society of America, an early superhero team in DC’s comic-book history.

The series follows Courtney Whitmore, who becomes Stargirl after connecting with the Cosmic Staff, which once belonged to Starman.

The team’s story begins after the Injustice Society attacks the original JSA, whose members are believed to have been killed.

Courtney and other teenagers then form a new Justice Society, taking up the work of the heroes before them.

Some original team members later appear, including Jay Garrick, played by John Wesley Shipp, who also appeared as The Flash in Arrowverse shows.

Stargirl is part of DC’s wider multiverse, not the main Arrowverse, and its story highlights a new generation carrying on the JSA’s legacy.
