Italian animal nutrition company Vetagro opens Maryland factory
Vetagro, an animal nutrition company from Reggio Emilia, opened a factory in Maryland on October 7.
It makes microcapsules containing supplements for farm animals, including cows, pigs, chickens and fish.
The capsules pass through a cow’s stomach and release nutrients in the intestine, which the company says can improve milk production and reduce antibiotic use.
The US expansion involves a $40 million investment, including $20.8 million from Simest, an Italian agency that supports companies expanding abroad.
Vetagro expects the new plant to help it more than double revenue to over €100 million by 2030.
The company says it will soon offer its supplements for dogs, opening a path into the pet food market.
The Maryland factory will supply the US, Brazil and Mexico, while Vetagro plans to make one-third of its total production in the United States and two-thirds in Italy.
