Police seize 9,000 wine bottles and banned olive oil in Santa Catarina
Police in Santa Catarina seized a truckload of undeclared goods during a stop on the BR-153 near Porto União on Sunday.
The cargo included about 9,000 bottles of Argentine wine and 27 containers of Valle Viejo olive oil.
The driver’s documents did not properly account for the goods, and police said the wine had not cleared customs.
Valle Viejo olive oil has been banned in Brazil since 2021 over problems with its import authorization, labeling and quality.
Brazil requires imported food to meet national health and quality rules before it can be sold.
The truck and products were seized, and the goods are to be sent to Federal Police for further investigation.
The reports do not say whether the driver was detained.
