Google Home update improves Gemini voice commands and device controls
Google is rolling out an October update for Google Home and Gemini for Home.
Gemini will now close its microphone when told to stop, and should better understand when “stop” means to end music, a timer or an alarm.
A polite “thank you” will get a brief, friendly goodbye instead of the assistant treating every conversation ending the same way.
Gemini’s weather answers will follow the temperature unit set in the Google Home app, and requests for relaxing music should play music rather than ambient sounds such as rain or white noise.
The app is getting redesigned controls for third-party lights, plugs and switches, with device options easier to reach.
Compatible Matter devices can use local control through Google Home hubs for faster, more reliable responses; Philips Hue bridges are being upgraded to support this.
The update also includes fixes and usability changes for cameras, device favorites and alarm notifications.
