Jakarta Sees Tourism and Events as Fast Route to More Revenue

Indonesia’s economy minister Airlangga Hartarto says tourism is a fast way to bring revenue to Jakarta.

He says tourism earns foreign currency without needing imported components, and the government wants to raise tourist arrivals to 20 million.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung says concerts and other events already bring large sums to the city.

He put the contribution from Kanye West’s recent concert at 450 billion rupiah and said hotel occupancy reached 90%.

Pramono also cited 250 billion rupiah from a Weeknd concert, alongside contributions from other festivals and fairs.

The city plans to attract more visitors with concerts and major events, including BTS later this year and Guns N’ Roses next month.

Officials expect event income to grow next year, and the city is offering hotel subsidies to help make stays cheaper.
