Kaizhou draws returning entrepreneurs to build local industries

In Kaizhou district of Chongqing, China, local authorities are bringing entrepreneurs back to build businesses at home.

Many people from Kaizhou have moved elsewhere to work, and the district says about 500,000 are living away.

A park launched in June called the “6070” industrial park has attracted 28 projects worth 5.335 billion yuan in planned investment in just over four months.

The projects include advanced materials, electronics, smart manufacturing, biomedicine, food processing and other industries.

Two returning entrepreneurs have built companies in Kaizhou making plastic additives and water-treatment equipment, with support such as help with permits, research links and funding.

The district also uses a bank card scheme to turn business transactions made elsewhere into credit records that can support investment back home.

Kaizhou aims to grow the park to more than 100 businesses by 2030, create at least 5,000 local jobs and reach annual output of 5 billion to 10 billion yuan.
