Mexico-Querétaro passenger rail line is 32% complete

Mexico’s Mexico City-Querétaro rail line is 32% complete, President Claudia Sheinbaum said during a construction visit.

The line is planned to run about 230 kilometres between Buenavista station in Mexico City and Querétaro.

The route is expected to take about two hours, with trains reaching up to 180 kilometres per hour on some sections.

Plans include stations in Huehuetoca, Tula de Allende and San Juan del Río, as well as two in Querétaro; Huehuetoca’s station is still under review.

Forty-seven diesel-electric trains have been contracted, and their manufacture has begun in Hidalgo.

The construction is being carried out by military engineers and must not interrupt freight rail operations.

The line is part of a wider plan for about 2,500 kilometres of rail, which the government says will improve passenger connections and provide an alternative to crowded roads.
