Former childcare worker charged with 202 offences involving 23 children

Ashley Paul Griffith has been charged with 202 additional offences over alleged child abuse in Sydney's inner west.

Police say the alleged victims were 23 children aged one to five who were in his care at a childcare centre.

The alleged offences took place from July 2014 to December 2017.

Griffith, a former childcare worker from Queensland, is serving a life sentence there for offences he admitted to against 69 girls in Brisbane and Italy.

The new NSW charges include alleged sexual offences and producing child abuse material.

He will remain in custody in NSW while the case proceeds, and he is due back in court on January 19.

The charges follow a lengthy investigation by NSW Police and the Australian Federal Police, which identified the children and gathered evidence.
