Gazprom says ASEAN needs underground gas storage

Gazprom says ASEAN countries have shown interest in underground gas storage as the Russian company develops ties with the region.

ASEAN is a group of Southeast Asian countries that Gazprom describes as a priority region.

Underground storage can hold gas for later use, while LNG facilities handle liquefied natural gas.

Gazprom also cited interest in geodesy and gas production.

The company says it can provide gas, technology and staff training for projects in the region.

It said Global South countries are expected to use 70% of global gas demand by 2050, out of a projected total of 5.7 trillion cubic metres.

Gazprom did not announce specific projects or a timetable for building facilities.
