South Korea’s new growth committee chair pledges stronger ties between large and small firms
Jang In-hwa has taken over as chair of South Korea’s committee for growth between large and small businesses.
He says he wants to build a model for companies to grow together across the country.
The committee was set up in 2010 to encourage cooperation and address conflicts between large firms and small businesses.
Jang says small businesses need more ways into supply chains and public markets, using the technology, sales networks and training of larger firms and public institutions.
He also plans to spread regional partnerships between businesses and public institutions, so economic growth can benefit local firms and workers.
In Busan, he says the planned moves of the oceans ministry, related public agencies and shipping companies including HMM could create opportunities for local businesses.
His next task is to turn those plans into changes firms can feel, while adapting the committee to a changing industrial environment.
Jang In-hwa, the new chair of South Korea’s Growth-Sharing Committee, pledged to build cooperation models between large and small firms.
He said the committee would spread regional partnerships and help small businesses enter large-company supply chains and public markets.
Jang said small firms should strengthen their competitiveness while large firms recognise that growing alongside them is an advantage.
He also wants the committee to help local businesses benefit from the planned relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and major shipping companies to Busan.

I will create a model for shared growth that encompasses large and small businesses nationwide.
Small businesses can achieve shared growth when they strengthen their competitiveness and become partners that large companies seek out first, and large companies recognise that growing together with small businesses is a major competitive advantage.
I will spread regional cooperation models in which local large and midsize companies, public institutions and small businesses grow together.
