La Russa says centre-right will choose Milan mayoral candidate after the left
Italian Senate President Ignazio La Russa says the centre-right is waiting for the left to name its Milan candidate for mayor.
He says the centre-right has not yet chosen its own candidate, and that three names have emerged.
The choice will be made by the coalition's national leadership, La Russa said.
He argued that the Democratic Party should first name its candidate, including the incumbent if that is its choice.
If the left delays, the centre-right may choose without waiting for its decision.
La Russa also said he does not expect the centre-right parties to run separately, saying they have usually reached agreement.

What people are saying
They are the incumbents, they should tell us first, and then we decide who will be the challenger
I thought that by October the left would have given us its candidate, and instead, to my surprise…
If they delay, we will choose regardless of them, but it would be logical for them to first say who their candidate is and then the challenger
I don't think so, it is not something that belongs to the centre-right, which has always found common ground
