EH Bildu names Oihana Etxebarrieta to lead its Congress group with Oskar Matute
EH Bildu has named Oskar Matute its spokesperson in Spain’s Congress for the next parliamentary term.
The Basque pro-independence coalition is also changing several candidates ahead of Spain’s general election on November 29.
Oihana Etxebarrieta will lead its list in Gipuzkoa, while Eneka Maiz will head the list in Navarra.
Matute will lead the Bizkaia list, and Mikel Otero will stand again in Álava.
Several current MPs are leaving, including Mertxe Aizpurua, Jon Iñarritu and Bel Pozueta; Aizpurua will appear at the end of the Gipuzkoa list in a symbolic role.
EH Bildu aims to keep or increase its six Congress seats, and voters will decide the result in the election.
EH Bildu has named Oihana Etxebarrieta to lead its Congress list in Gipuzkoa and Oskar Matute to lead its list in Bizkaia and serve as the coalition’s Congress spokesperson.
The candidate lists are for Spain’s general election on 29 November.
Etxebarrieta, 39, is a Basque parliamentarian and former EH Bildu secretary for Feminisms.
Matute will take over the spokesperson role from Mertxe Aizpurua, who is leaving the Congress group.
EH Bildu aims to retain its six current Congress seats or increase its representation.
