Kaduna-Kano rail line scheduled for inauguration on 3 December
The Kaduna-Kano railway is scheduled for inauguration on 3 December, according to Nigeria’s APC Presidential Campaign Council.
The 203-kilometre line runs through Kaduna and Zaria to Kano in northern Nigeria and is an extension of the Abuja-Kaduna railway.
The council says the project is about 90 per cent complete, compared with less than 30 per cent when President Bola Tinubu took office in 2023.
When operational, the line is expected to offer an alternative to road travel and help move passengers and goods between major commercial centres.
A government team recently inspected the projects and tested the track on a train journey from Jaji to Kano.
Land acquisition and compensation issues in Kaduna still need to be resolved to complete the railway corridor from Abuja to Kano.
The council says completed sections of the Kaduna-Kano and Kano-Maradi railways are due to be inaugurated on 3 December.
The Kaduna-Kano Standard Gauge Railway is scheduled to be inaugurated on 3 December, according to the APC Presidential Campaign Council.
