Bristol woman awarded £127,500 for caring for her mother

Bern Rogers was awarded £127,500 for caring for her mother, Sheila Wills, at home in Bristol.

Wills moved in with Rogers in 2017 after struggling to live alone, and was later diagnosed with dementia.

Rogers said she provided round-the-clock care for two-and-a-half years, as her mother's health declined.

After Wills died in April 2020, Rogers took an initial £100,000 from the estate, saying her mother had agreed she should be paid.

The money was seized, and Rogers was reported to police for theft and fraud amid a dispute with her five siblings.

Her brother, who managed the estate, said the siblings did not know of any agreement with Rogers.

The six-and-a-half-year dispute ended with the care payment awarded, but the account does not say whether there are any further legal steps.
