Germany and Nvidia plan cooperation on AI-powered industrial robots

Germany’s government and Nvidia plan to advance industrial AI through a new cooperation announced in Berlin.

The economy and research ministries signed a statement of intent with the US chipmaker, with a focus on developing AI-powered robots and bringing industrial AI into wider use.

Nvidia plans to offer its AI models to smaller businesses and research institutions, as well as large companies.

Chancellor Friedrich Merz urged businesses to make industrial data available for AI, while Nvidia chief Jensen Huang warned against giving away German expertise and later buying it back as imported AI.

The government has not said how much it will invest; a media report said it may provide hundreds of millions of euros, including for AI cloud computing capacity.

The companies and government aim to build a stronger AI ecosystem in Europe, but the announcement did not give a timeline for the project.
