Kremlin Says Ukraine Peace Talks Will Not Resume Immediately

Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by phone with U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday about the war in Ukraine and possible peace talks.

The Kremlin said Putin blamed Ukrainian drone attacks during last month’s Russian parliamentary election for undermining an immediate restart of negotiations.

Ukraine’s alleged attacks and their effect on talks were described by the Kremlin; the articles do not include a response from Ukraine.

The proposed talks would involve the United States, Russia and Ukraine.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022, and Trump has been trying to broker a peace deal.

Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov said Russia would consider when negotiations could resume.

Putin and Trump also discussed Russian fuel, and Trump said Russia had agreed to supply diesel, though accounts differed on how the arrangement was described.

Analysts cited in the coverage said the expected amounts were unlikely to make a major difference to fuel prices.
