Archaeological surveys to bring temporary traffic restrictions in Palermo

Palermo will begin preliminary archaeological surveys for Tram Line C within 30 days.

The work will take place on Viale Regione Siciliana and at two junction areas near Via Ernesto Basile.

The new line is planned to connect Corso Calatafimi with Palermo’s central station, extending the existing Line 4 route.

Mobile work sites will cause temporary road closures on parts of the affected roads, but not at the same time.

At least one lane in each direction must remain open to keep traffic moving.

The surveys are an early step toward building the tram route, before tracks are installed.

Construction is expected to take about three years, followed by around three months of testing without passengers.

The line is expected to open in 2029, if there are no unforeseen delays.
