Goyang funds repairs and energy upgrades for older homes
Goyang, a city in South Korea, is helping owners of older homes pay for repairs and upgrades.
This year, the city set aside 2.6 billion won for shared repairs in apartment complexes at least 15 years old.
The funding covers work such as replacing lifts and water pipes and repairing roofs and shared facilities.
More than 80% of the 44 selected complexes have completed their work, while repairs continue at some others.
A separate program supports insulation and energy-efficient windows in small, older homes, covering up to half the cost and no more than 10 million won per building.
That program supported 14 homes this year, and all their upgrades are complete.
The city plans to continue the small-home program next year and is considering more funding and easier eligibility rules for apartment repairs.
