Mohammed Mogouchkov sent to trial over fatal Arras school attack

French judges ordered Mohammed Mogouchkov to stand trial over the 2023 attack in Arras that killed teacher Dominique Bernard.

Bernard, 57, was attacked outside the Gambetta-Carnot school complex on 13 October 2023, and three other people were injured.

The judges say Mogouchkov should face terrorism-related charges, including murder, attempted murder and membership in a terrorist group.

Investigators said the attack was carefully prepared, and Mogouchkov has acknowledged targeting his former teacher and expressed no regret.

His brother and cousin were not sent to trial because the judges found insufficient evidence against them, despite prosecutors seeking charges for complicity.

Prosecutors have appealed that decision, so an appeals court will decide whether Mogouchkov will be tried alone or with his relatives.
