Grimes joins AI-generated sci-fi film set for US theater release

Grimes voices a character in Gods Don’t Give Gifts, an AI-generated animated science-fiction film directed by Zack London, who also goes by Gossip Goblin.

She plays Zayinth Alda, an aristocrat in a future where technology has changed what it means to be human.

The film is scheduled to open in US theaters on December 4, making it an early test of whether an AI-generated feature can reach traditional theatrical audiences.

Its four connected stories imagine a world where consciousness can move between bodies and memories can be bought and sold.

The filmmakers used AI-generated imagery alongside human writers and performers, as well as musicians and post-production workers.

They are seeking awards consideration, including for Best Animated Feature, and have also submitted the film for BAFTA and Golden Globe consideration.

The theatrical release and awards campaigns will show how the film is received by audiences and industry voters.
