Younger ministers may join PAP's top committee as party votes on new team

The People’s Action Party will elect its new top committee on Oct 25 in Singapore.

It will be the first central executive committee election since Lawrence Wong led the party through a general election as prime minister.

Observers expect younger ministers, including Jeffrey Siow, David Neo and Jasmin Lau, to join the committee as their government responsibilities grow.

Zaqy Mohamad, who was co-opted into the current committee in July, may also be part of the new line-up.

The expected changes are likely to be gradual, not a major shake-up, with some senior figures potentially making way.

The committee’s make-up matters because it helps steer the party and can signal its plans for leadership renewal.

Incremental change is likely the theme. It will be continuity among change.
