Man in Aichi arrested over alleged unlicensed sale of wild boar meat

Police in Aichi arrested a 28-year-old Vietnamese man on suspicion of processing and selling wild boar meat without a permit.

They allege he butchered two wild boars for sale in August last year and March this year, and sold the meat to several people.

The arrest follows an earlier case in which police accused him of trapping a deer outside the hunting season with an unlicensed snare.

The man said he sold the meat but did not know a permit was required; police are investigating how the animals were caught and sold.

Wild game meat needs proper handling because it can carry viruses and bacteria that cause food poisoning.

Aichi officials warn people not to buy wild game meat sold privately on social media.

Police are continuing to investigate whether he repeatedly sold meat from illegally caught animals.
