Uttarakhand assembly session opens in Gairsain with budget and bills

Uttarakhand’s two-day assembly session begins in Gairsain on 27 October, in the state’s summer capital.

The first day’s agenda includes a supplementary budget of about ₹7,000 crore and eight bills.

On the second day, members are due to consider these and other bills, and hold question time.

The session is the current Dhami government’s last before state elections, and Congress plans to challenge the government over several issues, including the Ankita Bhandari case.

The BJP says its lawmakers will respond to the opposition’s charges and present the government’s record.

The session also brings renewed calls from local people and representatives to make Gairsain the permanent capital and declare it a district.

Gairsain was made Uttarakhand’s summer capital in 2020, but a proposed secretariat has not been built, and the government’s position on the local demands remains to be seen.
