Canara Bank’s second-quarter profit rises 8.4% to ₹5,175 crore

State-owned Canara Bank’s profit rose 8.4% in the second quarter of FY27, reaching ₹5,175 crore compared with ₹4,774 crore a year earlier.

The Indian lender’s core income from lending increased 20.4% to ₹11,005 crore, and its net interest margin rose to 2.6% from 2.5% in the previous quarter.

Losses tied to rising bond yields limited the earnings gain, the bank said.

Its gross share of loans classed as non-performing fell to 1.3% at the end of September, down from 1.6% three months earlier and 2.4% a year earlier.

Lower non-performing loans reduced provisions to ₹1,782 crore, compared with ₹2,354 crore a year earlier.

Global deposits rose 13.1% to ₹17 lakh crore, supported by foreign-currency deposits through a Reserve Bank of India window; the bank gave no further plans or next steps.
