French crêpière Joëlle Dambo files complaints over racist abuse

Joëlle Dambo, a crêpière from Martinique, says she has faced racist abuse online for more than a year in Gomené, Brittany.

The abuse intensified after she won a televised crêpe contest in June 2026.

She says people have posted racist insults online and shouted racist slurs inside her restaurant.

Dambo has filed complaints over online harassment, hate incitement and racist insults, after an earlier complaint in July led to an investigation.

She also filed a complaint accusing Gomené’s mayor, Mickaël Leveau, of making a false accusation; his complaint against her was closed without further action.

The dispute has divided some residents, while Dambo says local officials did not support her against the abuse.

The status of the complaints and investigation is not stated.
