Kastamonu woman loses 1,690 lira in online shopping scam

A 58-year-old woman in Kastamonu was tricked while ordering a cup set for her daughter through WhatsApp.

She had used the shopping site four years earlier and first sent 1,000 lira for the order.

The sellers then claimed she had underpaid and asked for another 690 lira, which she sent.

They later said the money had gone to the wrong account and tried to get her to send 16,050 lira more through her mobile banking app.

A neighbour noticed what was happening and intervened, stopping the attempt; the callers then hung up.

The woman reported the fraud to police, who have opened an investigation.
