Cancún airport exceeds 400 daily operations after 69-day slump
Cancún International Airport recorded 428 scheduled operations on Oct.
25, with an equal number of arrivals and departures.
The airport had spent 69 days below 400 daily operations, its longest such slump since the pandemic.
Activity fell because airlines left or changed routes, aircraft were unavailable during engine inspections, and September and October are slow months for the destination.
The increase comes as winter flights return and airlines add routes, including services connecting Cancún with the United States, Canada and Europe.
Airlines including American, Delta, United, Air Canada and WestJet are restoring flight frequencies, alongside domestic carriers Viva and Volaris.
Officials expect 550 to 600 daily operations in December, which they say could help hotel occupancy in Cancún and the Riviera Maya recover.
Cancún International Airport recorded 428 scheduled operations on Sunday, October 25, ending a 69-day stretch below 400 daily operations.
The total included 214 arrivals and 214 departures, with 274 international and 154 domestic operations.
The airport had remained below 400 operations a day since August 17, with daily averages of 340 to 385 during the slump.
The downturn was attributed to airline departures, aircraft unavailability for engine inspections, US route changes and seasonal weakness in September and October.
The recovery coincides with the return of winter flights and the announcement of 14 new international routes and frequencies.
