Maribel Guardia denies seeking custody of her grandson
Maribel Guardia says she has never sought custody of her eight-year-old grandson, José Julián.
She was responding to claims by Imelda Garza Tuñón’s lawyer that Guardia filed legal challenges to take the boy from his mother.
The dispute involves the family of singer Julián Figueroa, who died in 2023, and has led to more than 20 proceedings, according to Tuñón’s lawyers.
Guardia says she has stopped seeking visits because she fears an encounter could be used to make legal accusations against her.
Her lawyer alleges the other side could use a private psychological assessment to accuse Guardia and her husband of mistreating the child; that claim is disputed.
A judge has upheld protection measures for Tuñón and her son, including barring the paternal family from approaching their home, contacting Tuñón or sharing the boy’s photos publicly.
Guardia says she wants privacy as the legal cases continue.
